Geodetic Engineer's Suite
Six free tools for the everyday work of a geodetic engineer: close the traverse, divide the lot, write the technical description, draw the survey plan, keep the paperwork on track, and send the letters. They run in your browser, and nothing you type is uploaded.
Beta Check every result against your own field data before you rely on it.
Traverse and area computation
Enter bearings and distances for a closed lot, or import them from a file.
- Error of closure and precision
- Compass, transit or least-squares adjustment, with residuals, a chi-square test and error ellipses
- Adjusted coordinates and a plot
- Area by coordinates, checked by DMD
- Tie to a monument or to a corner of an adjoining lot
- Adopt an adjoining lot's corners and hold them fixed
- Common boundary check against the approved plan
- Import courses from CSV, DXF, LandXML or Leica GSI files
Technical description generator
Turns the courses into the wording that goes on the plan and the title.
- Bounding lines worked out from the bearings
- Tie to the reference monument
- Shared corners and common lines stated for you
- Area in words and figures
- Copy, or download as a Word file
Subdivision
Divides a lot into parts of a predetermined area and closes every new lot.
- Parallel cut lines for lots of given areas, with the remainder as the last lot
- A line through a corner or any point you name that cuts off a given area
- Line offset: a strip of given width along a course, for a road, easement or setback
- Corners, bearings, distances and area for each new lot, with a plot
- Carry any lot into the technical description
Survey plan sheet
Draws the plan in the format submitted to DENR.
- Lot drawing with bearings, distances and tie line
- Lot data, area in words, standard notes
- Shared corners marked, common lines in the notes
- Certification, approval and seal blocks
- Print on A3 or A4, or download as SVG
Survey requirements checklist
A working list from engagement to release, for each kind of survey.
- Subdivision, consolidation, relocation, original survey
- Tick off items and add your own
- Progress saved for each job
Letters and notices
The letters a survey job needs, ready to print or finish in Word.
- Notice to adjoining owners, with a receipt slip
- Transmittal letter and request for records
- Quotation and statement of account
How they fit together
Compute the traverse, divide it on the subdivision page if the job is a split, then use the button on the results to carry the courses straight into the technical description and the survey plan sheet. Keep the checklist open while the job runs, and generate the notices, transmittal and billing from the letters page as each stage comes up.
Need a hand?
The Help page walks through each tool and explains the terms. Small ? marks beside the fields give a short tip as you work; switch them off with Tips at the top of any page.
Where your work is saved
Jobs, ties and drafts are saved in this browser on this device, which keeps them private but means they do not follow you to another computer and are lost if browsing data is cleared. Use Back up to a file at the bottom of any page to download everything as one file, and Restore from a file to load it on any device. The suite reminds you when changes have gone a week without a backup.
